Lesson: Respect for and protection of righteous parents from disbelieving and rebellious children Lesson: Protection from an oppressive king While I will not dive into the intricacies of each incident that Prophet Musa (AS) and Al-Khidr went through, I will inshAllah provide the wisdom and lessons from each. Therefore, we should believe in ourselves and in our God-given capacity to learn. Lastly, we see the level of earnest and confidence in Prophet Musa (AS) to learn and his trust in Allah (“If Allah wills, you will find me patient.”-ayah 69). Also, when we are accustomed to a system of laws or way of life, deviations from “the normal” are difficult to accept and understand. We (as mankind) are not always willing to accept that someone else or a Higher Being knows better than us and can teach us something. There is some insight on the nature of mankind here. Secondly, Al-Khidr says to Prophet Musa (AS) that he (Musa), will not have patience with something that he (Musa) has no knowledge about. Therefore, when we want to become seekers of knowledge, we should learn from scholars in a humble and polite way too. He (Al-Khidr) said: “Then, if you follow me, ask me not about anything till I myself mention of it to you.”įrom these verses, there are lessons we can extract:įor one, when Prophet Musa (AS) asks to be taught spiritual knowledge, he does so in a gentle manner. Musa said: “If Allah wills, you will find me patient, and I will not disobey you in aught.”ħ0. “And how can you have patience about a thing which you know not”Ħ9. He said: “Verily, you will not be able to have patience with me!”Ħ8. Musa said to him (Al-Khidr): “May I follow you so that you teach me something of that knowledge which you have been taught (by Allah)”Ħ7. Therefore, we should seek knowledge, and ask for Allah’s protection from illusions, and guidance to a clear and straight path.īe patient with seeking truth and knowledge, and place your trust in Allah.Ħ6. What may seem as one thing to us now, may be something else behind layers. The various trials that Prophet Musa (AS) goes through then, is an awakening to a higher truth and a lesson to mankind of illusions in the duniya.

In the narration of Prophet Musa (AS) and Al-Khidr, there is a trial of knowledge, where even Musa (AS) as a prophet was told that there is someone with greater knowledge. In the beginning of this Tafsir, we mentioned that Allah, praises His Holy Self at the beginning and end of matters, for He is the One to be praised in all circumstances.Īs this is the case, we see then if Allah is to be recognized at the beginning and end of all matters, then our trust should be with Him always. What I would like to focus on in this tafsir of Surah Al-Kahf, is the story of Prophet Musa (AS) and Al-Khidr where Prophet Musa (AS) is left to put his trust in Allah when traveling with Al-Khidr and submitting to Allah’s greater wisdom in all matters. The Holy Quran not only provides clear guidance to a straight path, but it reminds its readers that Allah knows best and is worthy of praise and recognition in all moments of life.
